Profile

I am a board-certified Anatomic pathologist with a subspecialty in Gynecologic and Breast pathology. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I have a background in oncologic research, having completed two postdoctoral research fellowships at The Johns Hopkins University. During this time, my research focused first, in cancer epigenetics under the mentorship of Dr. David Sidransky, with the aim of discovering novel differentially methylated genes, that could be associated with diagnosis, response to therapy and/or prognosis, in several malignancies. In my second research fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Cornelia Trimble, my focus was on cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, HPV disease and therapeutic vaccines effectiveness on pre-cancer and tumor microenvironment. Following my residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and during my Oncologic Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, my research focused on molecular alterations and gene fusions in uterine mesenchymal tumors in order to best classify these difficult to diagnose entities, using next generation sequencing. During my breast and gynecologic pathology fellowship at New York University I collaborated in evaluating the feasibility and effectiveness of radar reflector for localization (RRL) to guide excision of axillar lymph nodes in patients with node-positive breast cancer. We were able to demonstrate the safety and feasibility of RRL for the accurate excision of lymph nodes involved by metastatic mammary carcinoma, including in patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
