Profile
After completing my Surgical Pathology fellowship, an interest in research took me across the American continent from Argentina to the US, to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During my time in the Tissue Core, a pathology and auxiliary technique shared resource, I have gained experience in the interpretation of immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization assays and mouse mammary gland pathology, providing histopathologic correlation for translational research. As an MD, I have skills ranging from medical history to molecular biology and hold experience in teamwork and leadership. As chief resident and instructor, I have learnt the importance of organization, and the pleasure of teaching.
Presently, I am focusing on digital pathology and computer-aided image analysis. I led the development of multiplex fluorescence immunohistochemistry panels in the Tissue Core, implemented whole slide imaging, and promoted the migration from scoring by eye to automated quantitative image analysis. Our multiplex panels are currently focused on the characterization of tumors and the tumor-related immune-infiltrate to understand the mechanisms that mediate response to therapy in breast cancer and other tumor types such as melanoma, lung and renal carcinomas in search of prognostic and predictive biomarkers. I have collaborated with distinguished researchers from around the globe and participated in publications from international working groups such as International Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group.
